Our thoughts on Video Production Costs in Geelong

Traditionally, video production costs were expensive. The equipment was expensive and the skills were rare. But in modern times the price of equipment capable of delivery very high quality pictures has plummeted. Which means the skills have become more attainable.

So many videos that are viewable in the world today have been made on much smaller budgets than wold have been possible in the past. But with this can come a trap. Just because someone has just graduated from high school, studied a semester of production and is offering to do the job cheaper, doesn’t mean you’ll get quality.

Cheaper is not always better for a number of reasons:

1. Lack of experience – this can often result in a lack of understanding of the size of the task
2. Lack of understanding of the project – is the correct message being conveyed?
3. Lack of understanding of budget and time – which can lead to a lack of understanding of deadlines and the inability to deliver the required product with a timeframe

There’s a lot of lacking there!!

At The Tribe our skills are extensive and our experience broad, meaning we’re able to bring a solid understanding of marketing and messaging and production to our clients at a very reasonable rate, which are similar to those of many trades (just don’t ask us to fix a toilet!).

For most of our jobs, a two to three minute video would sit at approximately $1500 (exc gst), or sometimes up to $4500 (exc gst) depending on the project. However, based on the needs of the client and the complexity of the project, we also do quoted work which can vary the prices. Sometimes they can be cheaper and sometimes they can be more.

Believe it or not, our aim is not to be the cheapest in the market. We aim for the middle!

Our market in Geelong has matured past the point where the decision on who produces your video is based purely on price point. We now know that you get what you pay for. We’re cheaper than Melbourne production companies but we’re not the cheapest, and we don’t intend to be. The reason for this: so we’re able to deliver a good quality product at a fair and reasonable price.
